Joyce Marshall was recognized as Photographer of the Year in 1999 by the Houston Press Club and as Master Photographer of the Year in 1995 by the Headliners Foundation of Texas for portfolios of her work.  Her many honors include awards from the Association of Black Communicators, the Association for Women Journalists and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association for her documentary work, including a yearlong project chronicling the state of the American family.  Ms. Marshall's documentary  project exploring the spirituality of children earned an award of excellence in the 1997 Pictures of the Year competition from the National Press Photographers Association and University of Missouri School of Journalism.  Her work has been exhibited nationally, including the touring exhibit and book Game Face: What Does a Female Athlete Look Like? and is included in a photojournalism textbook.


Ms. Marshall was a staff photographer with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for thirty-three years.  After earning her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Nevada at Reno, she worked as chief photographer at the Nevada Appeal and as a staff photographer at the Colorado Springs Gazette-Telegraph.
